12 killed, others injured in fresh herdsmen attacks on Benue communities

Gunmen have reportedly caused the deaths of at least 12 individuals and inflicted various injuries on numerous others in recent assaults on Anyiin and neighboring communities, including Ayilamo, Iorza, and Gbeji, situated in the Logo Local Government Area of Benue State.

The perpetrators are believed to be Fulani herdsmen. Reliable eyewitnesses informed DAILY POST that the unprovoked attacks commenced last Monday, resulting in the killing of three innocent individuals. The violence persisted through Wednesday and Sunday, resulting in the deaths of an additional nine people.

A witness, requesting anonymity, disclosed that, in addition to entering homes, the assailants blocked roads in Anyiin, Iorza, and Gbeji during daylight hours, leading to more fatalities and extorting money from vulnerable villagers. The eyewitness urged the Benue State Government to provide security for the defenseless residents of Anyiin and its surroundings currently facing severe attacks.

The informant highlighted that these attacks occurred daily over the past two weeks without any intervention from security forces. Confirming the incidents, Benue State Police Command Spokesperson, SP Sewuese Anene, assured journalists that the command had deployed personnel to restore peace in the affected communities and appealed to the impacted individuals to remain calm.
