Late on Sunday, armed bandits launched an attack in the Kusa community of Musawa Local Government Area in Katsina State, resulting in the tragic death of at least 20 people and the abduction of numerous individuals who were celebrating Maulud, a significant Muslim religious event.
The assailants, numbering several, struck the unsuspecting residents at approximately 11:05 p.m., plunging the village into chaos and sorrow.
A member of the vigilante group who confirmed this brutal attack to DAILY POST stated, “The bandits surrounded the location where the Maulud celebration was taking place, opening fire on the participants, causing injuries to many and taking multiple people captive to an undisclosed location. The assailants managed to disappear into their hideouts before security forces could respond to the distress call. Following the attack, we discovered 20 deceased individuals within the village.”
The police spokesperson in Katsina, ASP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, also confirmed the incident, saying, “Yes, there was an attack in Musawa LGA at around 11 pm, while people were participating in the Maulud procession. Bandits attacked, shot, and injured 18 individuals who were subsequently taken to the hospital for treatment. Sadly, two of them later succumbed to their injuries. Further investigations are underway to potentially apprehend and bring the perpetrators of these acts to justice.”
