The head coach of Nigeria’s Super Eagles, Jose Peseiro, provided an explanation for his team’s inability to secure a victory against Zimbabwe in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Sunday. Peseiro witnessed a 1-1 draw between Zimbabwe and Nigeria at Huye Stadium in Rwanda, with goals scored by Walter Musona and Kelechi Iheanacho.
This outcome marks the Super Eagles’ failure to win their initial two matches in the World Cup qualifying series, having previously drawn 1-1 with Lesotho. During the post-match press conference, Peseiro attributed the result to the challenges posed by extensive travel.
He stated, “It was a challenging, arduous trip from Nigeria by flight, covering many hours. The players didn’t have sufficient rest for a swift performance at the same high level.” Peseiro further commented on the match, noting, “The first half was very poor, but the second half was much improved.”
