Primate Elijah Ayodele, leader of the INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, has predicted that the Social Democratic Party (SDP)—which is currently attracting opposition leaders—will become stronger than the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Labour Party, and other political parties. However, he stated that the party will ultimately fail against President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections.
According to Ayodele, the SDP’s downfall will stem from self-interest among those defecting to the party, as they will be more focused on personal gains rather than challenging the ruling party for power.
In a statement released by his Media Aide, Oluwatosin Osho, the prophet cautioned the SDP to be mindful of the increasing number of new members and to carefully select its candidates to avoid being led into failure.
He stated:
“SDP will be stronger than PDP and Labour. It will be the party to watch, but greed will cause its failure in 2027. Many of those defecting will not be committed to winning power but will be focused on personal enrichment.
“The party must be cautious of the large influx of members and ensure they do not give tickets to the wrong candidates. Sentiment and emotions must not dictate their selection process.”
Primate Ayodele further emphasized that defeating Tinubu in 2027 will require more than a simple coalition between political parties. Instead, he called for a strong, unified alliance involving all opposition forces.
He warned:
“The 2027 presidential election cannot be won through an ordinary coalition. It is not about just one party—it requires a strong alliance. While coalitions can break, a well-structured alliance will stand firm and deliver results.
“Defeating Tinubu will not be easy; he is a strong force. Sticking to traditional party structures will lead to failure. A new alliance must be created under a different name, and if properly formed, victory is possible.”
Additionally, Ayodele cautioned the opposition not to rely on governors, stating that many will betray any coalition that is formed.
He advised that the alliance should be built around the people, adding that some opposition governors would not participate.
“I also warn them not to depend on governors because they will betray any coalition they try to establish. The alliance should be people-driven because some governors are already disengaged from it.
“Governors like Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom, Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa, and others—whose names I will mention later—will not be part of the alliance,” he added.
This prediction comes amid reports that former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai and former PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar are working to form a coalition against the ruling party.
