Thailand returnee arrested with N3.1bn heroin at Lagos Airport

The NDLEA has arrested Oguejiofor Nnaemeka Simon Peter, a 29-year-old man recently returned from Thailand, for smuggling 13.30kg of heroin valued at more than N3.192 billion. The arrest took place at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, according to a statement by Femi Babafemi, NDLEA’s Director of Media & Advocacy.

Oguejiofor was taken into custody on Monday, October 7, 2024, after his luggage was intercepted. He had traveled from Thailand, stopping in Doha, before landing in Lagos. The NDLEA discovered heroin parcels concealed in six backpacks within two suitcases after he rerouted his luggage from Accra to Lagos.

In his confession, Oguejiofor admitted being hired for $7,000 to deliver drug parcels between Lagos and Accra.

In a related operation, NDLEA seized large quantities of tramadol and codeine-based syrup valued at N22.7 billion at the Lekki, Apapa, and Port Harcourt seaports. Other recent drug busts in Anambra and Edo States led to the arrest of suspects and recovery of over 1,000kg of cannabis.
