The Atum Humanitarian and Charitable Initiative is calling on President Bola Tinubu’s administration to take urgent action to address the escalating hardships in the country.
Honourable Ismaila Yusuf Atus, the Executive Chairman, expressed in a recent statement that soaring fuel prices are further eroding citizens’ purchasing power.
He stressed the need for the government to implement effective measures to alleviate the suffering of the populace, noting that existing programs are not enough. The initiative also appealed to NGOs, business leaders, and wealthy individuals to come together to support those in need.
“The situation is dire; the rise in fuel prices has intensified hunger, making it increasingly difficult for many to afford basic meals,” Atus stated. “We encourage NGOs to unite and help our communities while also urging the government to take concrete steps to lessen the burden on our citizens.”
While recognizing the government’s ongoing efforts and prior initiatives, Atus insisted on the necessity for additional actions to ease the struggles faced by many.
He also called on well-off Nigerians to step up during these challenging times, highlighting the importance of sharing resources with those in distress. Business leaders and politicians were urged not to hoard wealth while others are in need.
In response to the current economic challenges, the Atum Humanitarian and Charitable Initiative is working to raise N500 million to assist two million Nigerians affected by poverty. This appeal follows the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited’s recent increase of petrol prices to N1,030 per litre, further deepening the crisis for many.
