The Department of State Services (DSS) prevented Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), from meeting with his legal team on Friday. This was revealed by Kanu’s Lead Counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, in a post on X. Ejimakor highlighted that this latest action by the DSS represents a continued violation of a court order granting Kanu access to his lawyers.
He emphasized his intention to resume all previously suspended legal actions with renewed determination. Ejimakor remarked, “Today, in a flagrant disregard for an existing court order, the DSS blocked Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s legal team from visiting him. As a result, we will swiftly and forcefully move forward with all suspended legal actions to ensure compliance.” In October, the DSS had also denied Kanu access to his attorneys. He has been held by the DSS since his rearrest and extraordinary rendition in 2021. Following this, the Abuja Federal High Court issued a warning that it would hold DSS Director General Adeola Ajayi in contempt.
