The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has issued a response regarding a viral video of naira abuse at a wedding in Kano on October 24, 2024.
Although the incident was initially linked to the wedding of Senator Danjuma Goje’s daughter, her family strongly refuted these claims, denying any money-spraying at the event.
Following an investigation, the EFCC confirmed the incident actually took place at the wedding dinner of Amina Babagana Zannah. A statement on the EFCC’s X platform noted that Zannah’s mother acknowledged the video, clarifying that the cash-spraying originated from the groom’s family from Niger Republic.
The EFCC also disclosed that it had summoned the groom, Ibrahim Mohammad, and those involved.
The statement read in part: “The EFCC’s attention has been drawn to a viral video where naira notes were sprayed at a wedding in Kano on Friday, October 24, 2024.
“After examining the video, findings confirmed the naira abuse occurred, but not at Senator Goje’s daughter’s wedding; it happened at Amina Babagana Zannah’s wedding dinner. The groom, Ibrahim Mohammad, is from Niger Republic, and the spraying was done by his family members.”
The anti-corruption body has summoned Mohammad and other parties who took part in the naira spraying to its headquarters in Abuja.
Recently, the EFCC has prosecuted several Nigerians for naira abuse, including high-profile individuals like Cubana Chief Priest, who forfeited N10 million in a court settlement, and crossdresser Bobrisky, who received a six-month sentence.
