The Borno State Urban Planning and Development Board (BSUPDB) has announced a ban on street hawking and other unauthorized activities within Maiduguri metropolis.
The General Manager of the board, Limán Mustapha, disclosed this in a statement on Friday in Maiduguri, the state capital.
He explained that the ban aligns with the Borno State Urban Planning and Development Law of 2002 and affects specific activities, including street hawking, tricycle operations, and generator repairs around the Post Office and Monday Market areas.
Mustapha further stated that the prohibition extends to activities on pedestrian walkways, junctions, and roundabouts. Additionally, the sale of engine oil on road reserves, the dumping of sand or building materials, cement mixing on roads, and the construction of boreholes along roadsides have also been banned.
He directed those engaged in these activities to vacate the sites immediately and warned that violators would face arrest and prosecution.
“This measure aims to ensure a clean, safe, and organized urban environment in Maiduguri and other parts of the state,” Mustapha said.
He also urged residents and business owners to adhere to the directive to avoid legal consequences.
