Rivers judiciary dismisses report on alleged Chief Judge’s one-year recess

The Rivers State Judiciary has dismissed a report published by an online news outlet claiming that the Chief Judge of Rivers State is set to embark on a one-year recess amid the political crisis in the state.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Chief Registrar of the state High Court, David Ihua-Maduenyi, described the publication as “malicious, misleading, false, and baseless,” stating that it was an attempt to tarnish the reputation of both the Chief Judge, Justice Simeon Chibuzor-Amadi, and his office.

The statement clarified that “at no time did the Chief Judge announce or intend to announce any recess or extended leave, as such leave is not part of the Judicial Officers’ Calendar of Vacations.”

Ihua-Maduenyi further explained that the vacation calendar for judicial officers is well known to the public and consists of the Christmas Vacation, Easter Vacation, and Annual Vacation.

He urged the public to disregard the misleading publication, which he said was aimed at creating “ill-will, disaffection, and confusion in the state.”

The statement also ordered the author of the publication, Jake Clifford, and the publishers to immediately retract the false report or face legal consequences.
