Two women tragically died after falling into a puddle while attempting to wash themselves after work at a local zobo (hibiscus drink) processing factory in Gezawa Local Government Area of Kano State.
According to a statement by the spokesperson of the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Yusif, the incident occurred on Monday, April 7, 2025, but their bodies were recovered the following day after a search operation.
Yusif explained, “At about 11:15 a.m. on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, our control room received an emergency call from the commander of the Gezawa vigilante group, alerting us that two women had fallen into a puddle. Relatives said the women worked at a zobo production company and had gone into the water to wash after their shift, which unfortunately led to their deaths.”
Rescue operations began Monday evening and continued until the victims’ bodies were recovered on Tuesday. The women were found unconscious and handed over to one Musa Garba of the Gezawa Police Division, where they were later confirmed dead.
