Court Orders Psychiatric Evaluation As Kano TikToker Murja Kunya Appears In Court

Justice Nurah Yusuf of a Shari’a Court in Kano has mandated a psychiatric assessment for the controversial female TikToker known as Murja Kunya, citing concerns over her behavior during a court session. Murja, facing charges of indecency and immorality from the Kano State Hisbah Board, appeared in court on Tuesday morning for her ongoing trial.

However, Justice Yusuf expressed apprehension about Murja’s demeanor during the proceedings, suggesting the possibility of substance influence or mental health issues. Consequently, he ordered her release from the correctional facility into the custody of the Hisbah Board, tasking them with arranging a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation by a qualified psychiatrist to ascertain her mental condition.

The trial has been adjourned until May 20, 2023, awaiting the medical report resulting from the psychiatric assessment.

Rumors circulating about Murja’s unexplained absence from the Kano Correctional Centre were prevalent for several days until the State Government refuted the claims on Monday. They clarified that Murja had been temporarily removed from the facility by security operatives to aid investigations into another matter involving her.
