The students and teachers from Apostolic Faith Group of Schools in Emure-Ekiti, Ekiti State, who were recently taken captive by armed individuals, have been set free. The circumstances surrounding their release, whether through the intervention of security forces or payment of a ransom, remain uncertain as of now.
There were earlier reports that the abductors had demanded N100 million for the victims’ release, but it is unclear if any payment was made before their liberation at around 2:00 am on Sunday. Despite earlier concerns that the kidnappers had threatened harm if the ransom was not paid, it is not confirmed whether the payment was indeed made. The incident occurred on Monday evening when the assailants kidnapped the children and their teachers. Initial unconfirmed reports on Saturday indicated their release, but the police promptly refuted the information. A brief video circulating on Sunday morning shows the liberated pupils and teachers seated on the floor, appearing fatigued.
