workshop behind Okigwe park in Umuahia, and former Ohuhu motor park in the Abia capital, which have allegedly become shanty and den for criminals and illicit drug dealers.
The Mayor, while conducting the Abia State Police Commissioner round the shanties, expressed his desire to demolish and rebuild them to accommodate motor park and market.
Ikeji lamented that the activities of transporters and traders at Ishi-gate caused traffic gridlock and defaced the beauty of Umuahia city centre, which entailed that they be relocated to a better place to operate.
He maintained that the administration of Governor Alex Otti is interested in making Umuahia and every part of Abia State befitting and safe place for people to live.
Also speaking during the inspection, Abia State Police Commissioner, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie said the shanty was a known hub for criminals and drug peddlers in the state capital.
He said it would be in the best interest of the state for the shanty to go or put to productive use.
