The Nigerian Patriotic Forum, a prominent organization representing Abuja indigenes, has strongly opposed the calls for the removal of Nyesom Wike from his position as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). This response comes after the Network of Civil Societies for Economic Sustainability recently demanded Wike’s resignation from his role.
According to DAILY POST, the group insisted on Wike’s immediate resignation or dismissal, citing alleged deficiencies in his character deemed unsuitable for his office within a government that pledges to renew the hope of Nigerians.
In a media address on Thursday in Abuja, Aliyu Sani, the chairman of the Nigerian Patriotic Forum, led a group of demonstrators to the National Assembly to express support for Wike and counter what he described as “falsehood” in the accusations against the minister.
Sani dismissed the allegations made by the Network of Civil Societies for Economic Sustainability, asserting that they were grounded in misinformation. He emphasized, “Nothing can be further from the truth than this well-rehearsed and repeated falsehood.”
Sani clarified that Wike has taken proactive measures to revalidate land ownership certificates, incorporating new security features. This initiative includes the integration of the National Identity Number (NIN) for individuals and the Bank Verification Number (BVN) for corporate entities.
The chairman of the Nigerian Patriotic Forum revealed that since assuming office as the FCT Minister, Wike has collaborated with the Corporate Affairs Commission, leading to the identification and prosecution of individuals involved in the allocation of lands through 189 fraudulent companies.
Sani declared, “The Abuja original inhabitants are with him. They will stand by him, and we are ever ready to come out to counter any protest aimed at tarnishing the hard-earned reputation of Wike, thereby diminishing his renewed vigor towards revitalizing the nation’s capital.”
