Shehu Sani, the former Senator representing Kaduna Central, remarked on Monday that President Bola Tinubu would have needed divine intervention to avoid criticism if he had attended the final Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, in Cote d’Ivoire. Sani suggested that Nigerians would have been highly critical of Tinubu had he been present at the final match. In a post on X, Sani wrote: “If the President had attended that Match, only God could have saved him from your lashes.” The Super Eagles of Nigeria suffered a 2-1 defeat against the Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire on Sunday.
Ivory Coast came from behind to secure the victory, with Sebastian Haller scoring the decisive goal after Franck Kessie had equalized William Troost-Ekong’s first-half header. Nonetheless, some Nigerians expressed their discontent on X, attributing the Eagles’ loss to Tinubu.
For instance, @joseph_ebuka3 stated: “So it’s Tinubu’s fault we lost that match.” Similarly, @kobokolaugh wrote: “Tinubu, we are not pleased with Nigeria, it’s the Super Eagles we are content with.” And @This_isBravado commented: “Tinubu is responsible for this defeat. Ghanaians, please take Tinubu and give us Shata Bandle.”
