Agatu killings: Enough is enough, time to act is now – Idomas in USA

The Idoma Association USA has expressed deep sorrow and anger over the recent attack on the Egwuma community in Agatu Local Government Area, Benue State, which claimed six lives, including two soldiers.

This latest incident, linked to suspected armed herders, is part of a long history of deadly assaults in Agatu and other Benue South areas.

In response, the association criticized successive governments for their failure to tackle the ongoing violence and insecurity, viewing it as a betrayal of the citizens and evidence of systemic neglect of their safety and well-being.

Edwin Ochai, the association’s president, urged all Idoma individuals, both domestically and abroad, to unite in defense of their community against these aggressors.

Ochai stated, “While we commend the Nigerian Army for sending troops to the area and mourn the loss of two brave officers, we are troubled by the silence of the Benue State government and relevant security agencies in addressing these attacks.

“The absence of official responses to these senseless killings is deeply worrying.

“This is not just a local issue; it’s a sustained effort to wipe out the Idoma ethnic group. It’s time for us to unite and safeguard our land from intruders.

“The Idoma people are known for their courage and resilience. We cannot allow our heritage and future to be erased by those who wish to destroy us.

“ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! We call on all members of the Idoma community to come together and take decisive action to stop the ethnic cleansing occurring in Agatu and other Idoma areas.”
