Aisha Achimugu’s arrest rumor fake, unfounded – Aide insists as Nigerians react

Dr. Aisha Achimugu’s Media Aide, Mr. David Abakpa, has clarified that his principal and Group Managing Director/CEO of FELAK Concept Group is not under investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

In a statement issued on Friday in Abuja, Abakpa emphasized that Dr. Achimugu, OFR, has no pending issues with the EFCC, despite speculations circulating on social media.

He described the EFCC as a credible financial crime agency that follows due process, stating that it would not rely on social media claims before investigating any individual or group.

Challenging those behind the media campaign against his principal, Abakpa demanded proof of any alleged investigation or arrest warrant issued by the EFCC. He also dismissed reports suggesting that Dr. Achimugu fled the country to evade arrest.

The statement read in part:

“It is unfortunate that certain media platforms known for clickbait journalism are being used to spread falsehood against Dr. Aisha Achimugu, a patriotic Nigerian and global icon who continues to uplift the nation’s reputation on the international stage.”

He further reaffirmed that the EFCC is professional in handling financial crimes and does not prematurely release arrest information to the media before completing an investigation.

“It is strange that anonymous EFCC officials would allegedly reveal plans to arrest a law-abiding Nigerian to an online media platform.”

Abakpa challenged the news outlet to publish the alleged arrest warrant or invitation letter issued by the EFCC against Dr. Achimugu.

“Anyone on the EFCC watchlist cannot simply leave the country without being stopped by security agents at the airport.”

He described the media campaign as baseless, asserting that falsehood can never prevail over truth.

“The sponsors of this fake news lack the credibility or coordination to tarnish the image of an award-winning entrepreneur.”

Abakpa also highlighted the national honor (OFR) bestowed on Dr. Achimugu, emphasizing her contributions to Nigeria’s economy through legitimate businesses.

“The OFR is a prestigious national honor, not a mere title, and Dr. Aisha Achimugu earned it through hard work and dedication.”

Dismissing claims that Dr. Achimugu left Nigeria to avoid arrest, he described her as a diligent businesswoman who frequently travels abroad for business engagements.

“It is laughable to suggest that she traveled out of the country to escape arrest.”
