Akwa Ibom Govt Demolishes Shrine Along Nsit Atai-Okobo Road, Gives Reason

The Akwa Ibom State government has destroyed shrines situated along Nsit Atai Okobo road in the State.

The Commissioner for Works and Fire Service, Professor Eno Ibanga, who stated this on Wednesday while supervising the deforestation of the forest where the shrines were located, noted that the action of the State government became necessary in order to get a right of way and facilitate the execution of the Nsit Atai-Okobo dual carriageway project.

Accompanied by Brigadier General Koko Essien (retd), and Engineers from the Ministry of Works and Fire Service, the commissioner stated that the government would not allow any obstacle to the completion of Governor Udom Emmanuel’s agenda.

He said the government would employ diplomacy where necessary to achieve its aim.

According to him, “We cannot allow anybody, community, not even a shrine to stand in the way of the completion agenda of Governor Udom Emmanuel. As usual, we will continue to use dialogue, and diplomacy to peacefully resolve all issues that arise, but whenever that fails, then the government has to use government powers to take action that will benefit the people”.

The Commissioner also re-echoed his instruction to construction companies handling road projects across the State to concentrate on earthwork and other aspects of the job that cannot be attempted during the rainy season to ensure speedy and durability of the project.
