The Socioeconomic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has taken legal action against Senate President Godswill Akpabio for failing to recall Senator Abdul Ningi of Bauchi Central and for not referring the budget padding allegation to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) as demanded.
Ningi had raised concerns about the disappearance of N3.7 trillion in the 2024 budget, leading to his suspension by the Senate when he couldn’t provide evidence for his claims. Activist lawyer Femi Falana had urged the Senate to reinstate Ningi, a request that remains unmet.
SERAP announced their lawsuit against Akpabio on X, emphasizing the need for accountability and investigation into the alleged budget irregularities.
