Alleged exploitation: Benue Assembly summons LG chairmen, directors

The Benue State House of Assembly has summoned the chairmen of all 23 local government councils, along with their Directors of General Services and Administration (DGSAs), to address allegations of exploitation.

The Assembly, during its plenary session on Tuesday, also directed the heads of revenue departments from the councils to appear on Friday.

This decision followed a motion moved by Mr. Moses Egbodo, Co-Chairman of the Joint Committee on Finance, Trade, and Industry. Egbodo informed the House that the local government officials had failed to appear before the joint committee to respond to concerns about the use of unauthorized sacks for market transactions, instead of the approved Benue Sacks.

Mr. Abu Umoru, another Co-Chairman of the committee, expressed dissatisfaction with the officials’ disregard for the authority of the House. He stressed the importance of addressing the exploitation of farmers, calling it a matter that should not be taken lightly.

In his ruling, the Speaker ordered the council chairmen, their DGSAs, and revenue heads to appear before the Assembly on Friday without fail.
