The Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa Initiative (ASR Africa) has begun constructing a state-of-the-art research laboratory for the Federal University Lokoja in Kogi State. This project is part of ASR Africa’s ongoing strategic efforts to support the nation’s tertiary education through its Tertiary Education Grants Scheme (TEGS), funded by ASR Africa’s US$100 million Social Development and Renewal Fund.
At the groundbreaking ceremony, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Olayemi Akinwumi, expressed his gratitude to the Chairman of ASR Africa for his generosity towards the University. He highlighted that the new facility would help address the institution’s infrastructure challenges, particularly in research, and provide a platform for discoveries, innovations, and scientific advancements in physical and life sciences.
In his speech, Dr. Ubon Udoh, the MD/CEO of ASR Africa, thanked the University’s management and students for their warm reception. He reaffirmed the Chairman’s commitment to supporting quality education in Nigeria’s tertiary institutions and encouraged proper use and maintenance of the facility as a sign of appreciation for the grant.
The ASR Africa grant and award process began in December 2022, and the university community received the confirmation of their nomination with great joy. At that time, the Vice-Chancellor described the gesture as a Christmas/New Year gift from God to himself and the University. The Tertiary Education Grant Scheme of ASR Africa is a personal commitment by Abdul Samad Rabiu, Chairman of ASR Africa and BUA Group, to give back to the African continent and make a lasting impact in education, thereby uplifting and restoring the dignity and lives of Africans.
