Buba Galadima, a chieftain of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), has stated that it is unrealistic for the entire northern region to unite behind a single presidential candidate in the 2027 election.
In an interview with Sun, the former National Secretary of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) emphasized that in Nigeria’s democratic system, voters have the freedom to make their own choices.
When asked if Northerners would support either Atiku Abubakar, former presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), or his NNPP counterpart, Rabiu Kwankwaso, Galadima responded, “We are not in the church or the mosque. Why should we speak with one voice? That is democracy. If you bring three people together, each has a different perspective on how to address a problem.”
He also claimed that the NNPP’s votes were suppressed in the 2023 general elections. “NNPP is doing very well because after the elections, we discovered that our votes were suppressed. Over five million of our votes were suppressed,” he said.
