Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has praised Argentina captain Lionel Messi for winning his eighth Ballon d’Or award.
Messi won the award on Monday night in Paris, beating off competition from Manchester City striker Erling Haaland and Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe.Speaking ahead of Arsenal’s Carabao Cup tie against West Ham United, Arteta said that it was “incredible” for Messi to win the award at his age, and that he was “so glad” that the Gunners had a few players nominated as well.In other words, Arteta believes that Messi is the best player in the world and that he deserves to have won the Ballon d’Or. He is also pleased that some of his own players were recognized for their performances.
