The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has issued a firm warning to drivers regarding the violation of traffic signals in Abuja. Mr. Wadata Bodinga, the Director of Traffic Management at the Transportation Secretariat of FCTA, conveyed this caution during an interview with the press in Abuja on Monday. He emphasized that penalties would be imposed on individuals who fail to adhere to traffic rules.
Bodinga highlighted that, despite a reduction in violations by 80 percent, the FCT has not yet reached its desired level of compliance. He acknowledged that some individuals are still disregarding traffic lights in the city, indicating that while progress has been made, further improvement is needed.
Additionally, Bodinga mentioned an ongoing enhancement of the traffic lights to enable them to capture traffic data at all junctions within the city. This upgrade is set to be activated soon. Once completed, the improved system will allow the traffic lights to identify and record traffic violations in real time, transmitting the details of the violators’ vehicles to the traffic light Control Centre.
Bodinga emphasized that disobeying traffic lights in the FCT will come with consequences, and offenders will face penalties. These penalties could involve fines during the renewal of vehicle papers or other measures still under consideration. The primary goal is to enhance the safety and security of motorists in the Federal Capital Territory.
