Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has designated Omobayo Marvellous Godwins, a 38-year-old engineer, as his latest deputy, succeeding Comrade Philip Shaibu who was removed from the position on Monday. Omobayo’s official inauguration is scheduled for Monday at the Edo State Government House in Benin City, where a gathering of friends and well-wishers awaits the swearing-in ceremony.
Born on July 19, 1986, Omobayo originates from Akoko Edo Local Government Area of the state. With a B.Eng Degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering and an MSc in Public Administration from the University of Benin (UNIBEN), he is well-prepared for the responsibilities of his new role, combining technical expertise with administrative proficiency.
He holds membership in both the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) and the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN). Prior to his recent appointment, Omobayo served as a Senior Maintenance Engineer at Dresser Wayne West Africa Limited, gaining valuable experience in the operational dynamics of the South-South region and contributing to business growth in the area.
Active in local politics, he has established rapport with the community, rallying support for common goals and transcending political divides to the dismay of his adversaries.
