Daniel Asama, the Labour Party (LP) candidate, emerged victorious in the rerun election for the Jos North/Bassa Federal Constituency of the House of Representatives held last Saturday. The Returning Officer, Prof. James Garba, announced Asama as the winner with 66,422 votes, defeating his closest rival, Mohammed Gwani of the Peoples Redemption Party, who secured 61,670 votes.
In a similar development, Prince Pam Mwadkon Dachungyang of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) was declared the winner in the rerun election for the Plateau North senatorial seat. Prof. Nestor Chagok, the Returning Officer for the senatorial rerun election, revealed that Dachungyang garnered 122,442 votes, surpassing Yakub Muhammad Safiu of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), who received 53,980 votes. Christopher Musa Giwa of the All Progressives Congress (APC) secured 39,132 votes, while Barr. Gyang Zi of the LP garnered 33,243 votes.
It’s worth noting that the Court of Appeal in Abuja nullified the election of PDP’s Musa Agah and Sen. Simon Mwadkon last year, prompting the rerun election within 90 days. Additionally, the PDP was excluded from the ballot paper by INEC based on the court’s judgment.
