Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, the 15th Emir of Kano, has returned to the ancient town and moved into a palace in the early hours of Saturday.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, who dismissed Ado Bayero and other emirs appointed by his predecessor, Abdullahi Ganduje, had ordered them to vacate their palaces within 48 hours and hand over to the Commissioner of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
Subsequently, the governor reinstated Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi, who had been deposed by Ganduje in 2020. Sanusi received his reappointment letter on Friday and led the Jumat prayers at Government House, Kano.
On Saturday morning, Ado Bayero returned to Kano, greeted by a large crowd of supporters, and moved into the palace in Nassarawa, creating confusion. Meanwhile, Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II has taken over the Gidan Rumfa palace. Both palaces are now under heavy security.
More details will follow.
