BREAKING: Emefiele granted N300m bail in fresh criminal trial

In Maitama’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court, former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele, was granted bail of N300 million after being arraigned on four charges related to printing new Naira notes without proper procedures.

Emefiele pleaded not guilty to the charges brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The bail terms stipulate that he must provide two sureties, each owning titled property within the Maitama area of the FCT.

Additionally, Emefiele must surrender his travel documents to the court and obtain permission before traveling abroad. These conditions mirror those of a previous bail granted by Justice Hamza Muazu of the FCT High Court, where Emefiele faces another criminal case. Justice Anenih, the presiding judge, agreed to accept certified true copies (CTCs) of documents submitted for the prior bail. The trial is scheduled to commence on May 28.
