BREAKING: Labour declares indefinite strike over failure to agree on new minimum wage

The organized labor groups, consisting of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), have announced an indefinite strike starting on June 3, 2024.

The organized labor states that the strike is necessary due to the Federal Government’s stubborn refusal to increase the N60,000 offered during the resumption of the tripartite committee meeting in Abuja on Friday.

NLC President Joe Ajaero and TUC President Festus Osifo announced the strike at a joint press conference.

Osifo explained, “As you know, we had a meeting on Tuesday, where the government proposed N60,000. We were invited to another meeting today (Friday) and discussed it, expecting the government to show commitment.

“To our dismay, there was no serious representation from either the Federal Government or the state governors who are supposed to participate in the negotiations.

“Essentially, we felt abandoned as they remained firm on the N60,000 offer, with not a single kobo added to what we had already rejected.”
