An unidentified individual ignited a mosque in Laraba Abasawa, located in the Gezawa Local Government Area of Kano State. The incident, reported by Daily Trust, took place during the early hours of Wednesday, resulting in injuries to worshippers.
As per the report, community members were engaged in the ‘Subh’ prayer when the arson occurred. A witness from the community revealed that the perpetrator used petrol to ignite the fire while approximately 40 individuals were in prayer. After starting the fire, the culprit locked the mosque, impeding the escape of those inside.
It took some time for bystanders to become aware of the situation and rescue the victims who were struggling to flee. Around 20 seriously injured worshippers were promptly transported to Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital in Kano for medical treatment.
