The Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is currently holding an emergency meeting to address the ongoing leadership crisis within the party.
Among those in attendance are BoT Chairman Senator Adolphus Wabara, BoT Secretary Senator Ahmed Makarfi, and former governors Achike Udenwa, Sam Egwu, Babangida Aliyu, Senator Ben Obi, and Chief Olagunsoye Oyinlola, among others.
The meeting comes amid the ongoing dispute over the position of PDP National Secretary.
Last week, tensions escalated at the PDP national secretariat when a confrontation broke out between Samuel Anyanwu and Sunday Ude-Okoye during a BoT meeting.
The conflict began when Anyanwu vacated the position to contest the Imo State governorship election, leading the party’s Southeast leadership to appoint Ude-Okoye as his replacement.
This sparked a legal battle, culminating in the Court of Appeal in Enugu ruling in favor of Ude-Okoye as the legitimate National Secretary.
However, Anyanwu has rejected Ude-Okoye’s authority to assume the role, arguing that his appeal to the Supreme Court necessitates maintaining the current status quo.
