The ongoing turmoil within the Rivers State House of Assembly took a new turn on Sunday as the factional speaker aligned with Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Rt. Hon. (Barr.) Ehie Ogerenye, submitted his resignation, concurrently stepping down as a member of the Assembly.
In a letter addressed to the National Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Ehie formally communicated his voluntary resignation as the Speaker and Member of the 10th Rivers State House of Assembly, representing Ahoada-East Constituency II, effective immediately.
The letter expressed gratitude to colleagues and constituents for the opportunity to serve, pledging continued dedication to Rivers State in subsequent roles. It concluded with assurances of the sender’s highest esteem at all times.
This development followed intervention by President Bola Tinubu in the discord between the Rivers Governor and his political mentor, Nyesom Wike, the FCT minister. Tinubu’s eight-point resolution directed the recognition of Martins Chike Amaewhule as the speaker of the house and mandated a repetition of actions taken by Edison, such as the budget presentation.
