The Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, and his estranged godfather, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, attended the National Police Council meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. It is unclear whether the meeting will help to mend their relationship.
Other state governors who attended the closed-door meeting include Yahaya Bello (Kogi), Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa), Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), Abdullahi Abba (Kano), and Bassey Ottu (Cross River). Before the meeting began, Wike and the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, were seen having an aside discussion. After the meeting, Wike shook hands and briefly exchanged pleasantries with Governor Fubara. This is the first time the two men have met face-to-face since their reported spat began. The crisis between Fubara and Wike has led to moves by 24 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly to impeach Governor Fubara. On Monday, there was turbulence in the state as the governor’s loyalists stormed the assembly complex in protest against the plot.
