Rivers State Head of Service, Dr. George Nwaeke, has resigned from his position.
His resignation was announced on Tuesday in a statement signed by the Chief of Staff to the Rivers State Sole Administrator, Retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas.
The statement acknowledged Nwaeke’s contributions during his brief tenure under the Sole Administrator and extended best wishes for his future endeavors.
In the meantime, Dr. (Mrs.) Iyingi Brown, the Permanent Secretary for Welfare in the Office of the Head of Service, has been appointed as the acting Head of Service until a permanent replacement is named.
While congratulating Brown on her new role, Ibas reaffirmed his dedication to neutrality, peace, and stability in Rivers State.
The statement read, *“The Office of His Excellency, the Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral (rtd) Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas CFR, regrets to announce the resignation of the Rivers State Head of Service, Dr. George Nwaeke, FCA, Mni.
His Excellency appreciates the significant contributions Nwaeke made to this administration in the short time he served and wishes him success in his future pursuits.”*
Nwaeke’s resignation comes just a week after President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State, leading to the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Deputy Governor Ngozi Nma Ordu, and all members of the State Assembly.
The President’s decision has sparked widespread criticism from major political figures, civil society groups, the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), and many residents of Rivers State.
