President Bola Tinubu is currently holding an urgent meeting with state governors at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Thursday. The meeting, which commenced around 11:30 am, is attended by Vice President Kashim Shettima, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesom Wike, and the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.
Reports indicate that President Tinubu called for the meeting to address the escalating cost of food items, insecurity, and other economic challenges. These issues have led to protests by women and youth in several states across the country.
Governors from Ekiti, Delta, Borno, Lagos, Kwara, Nasarawa, and Edo States are present at the meeting, along with governors from Yobe, Anambra, Akwa Ibom, Abia, Plateau, Kaduna, Sokoto, Niger, Taraba, Adamawa, Cross River, Ogun, and Enugu states. Following the emergency meeting, it is understood that the monthly National Economic Council (NEC) meeting will take place, chaired by Vice President Shettima.
