Church of England compensates victims of slavery

Following the apologies made by the Archbishop of Canterbury last year, for the church’s involvement in slave trading, the Church of England is to spend £100m on communities affected by slave trade.

The fund is to be spread over for nine years.

In a statement, Church of England expresses optimism that the investment in the communities affected by the slave trade will leave impactful legacies on the beneficiaries.

The Church had in June 2022 conducted an investigation which showed that the unit managing the investment portfolio of the church had invested huge sum of money in transporting slaves.
