Former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele, has been granted bail by the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Maitama. The court ruled on Wednesday, with Justice Hamza Muazu setting the bail amount at N300 million. According to the ruling, Emefiele is required to provide two sureties, both of whom must possess landed property in the Maitama District of the FCT.
Notably, Emefiele was absent from today’s court proceedings as he had been remanded at Kuje Prison the previous week. It is worth mentioning that another FCT High Court had ordered his release two weeks prior, citing a fundamental human rights suit he had filed against the federal government. The trial is scheduled to commence on November 28, with further details to be provided shortly.
