Court grants Prof. Uduk bail over alleged electoral fraud in Akwa Ibom

The High Court in Uyo has granted bail to Prof. Ignatius Uduk, who was convicted of electoral fraud, due to his critical health condition while he awaits the outcome of his appeal.

In his ruling on Thursday, Justice Okon Okon approved Uduk’s bail request, setting the bail at N2 million with two sureties.

The judge also ordered that Uduk must not leave the country during the bail period and must surrender his international passport to the court.

The case, filed under Charge No: HU/240c/2020, was between the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and Prof. Ignatius Uduk. INEC was represented in court by Mr. Daniel Nwike, while Uduk’s legal team included Chief Kalu Umeh (SAN), Senator Ita Enang (OFR), Dr. Joe Udoinyang, and George Ezegwu.

Speaking after the ruling, Senator Ita Enang expressed satisfaction with the court’s decision. Representing Umeh (SAN), Enang assured that efforts were underway to meet the bail conditions promptly so Uduk could receive medical treatment while awaiting his appeal.
