Crime rate in Cross River low – DIG Sokari Pedro

Deputy Inspector General of Police for the South-South region and Head of the Department of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), DIG Sokari Pedro, remarked that Cross River State has a notably low crime rate compared to other South-South states. He made this observation during a courtesy visit to Governor Senator Bassey Otu in Calabar.

Pedro explained that this assessment was based on security reports available to them. He attributed the reduction in crime to the strong support from the state government in combating crime and urged continued efforts to maintain this success.

“Our personnel have reported the administration’s unwavering support for smooth security operations in the State. We encourage you to sustain this level of support,” he said.

Pedro’s visit aimed to gain firsthand insight into the conditions of police personnel in the state and to boost their morale. He also reminded his officers to consistently adhere to their professional ethics.

Governor Bassey Otu, represented by his deputy Peter Odey, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting security agencies in eliminating the remaining crime pockets in the State. He praised the collaborative efforts of the police and other security agencies in tackling crime and insecurity.

Otu assured that his administration is ready to equip the police and other security agencies with high-tech facilities and modern technology to enhance their crime-fighting capabilities in Cross River.

“We appreciate your visit and the tremendous work done by CP Gyogon Augustine Grimah and his team, which allows us to sleep peacefully. They have significantly reduced crime.

Today, fighting crime effectively requires modern technology. We are committed to providing more support to the police and other security agencies to address all security challenges in the state,” he stated.
