President Bola Tinubu has instructed that policies affecting the welfare of Nigerians and the economy must be handled promptly, diligently, and with a strong sense of responsibility.
He issued this directive during a meeting with the Head of Service, the Body of Permanent Secretaries, and certain Directors-General of agencies in Abuja on Thursday. Tinubu urged senior civil servants to recommit themselves to their duties and to act swiftly on matters concerning citizens’ welfare to enhance the lives of Nigerians.
Tinubu cautioned against inefficiency and unnecessary bureaucracy that could delay economic interventions and programs aimed at assisting vulnerable citizens, emphasizing that such practices would not be tolerated.
He mandated the Head of Service to provide monthly briefings and submit Key Performance Indicator (KPI) reports to his office for assessment. Additionally, Tinubu proposed quarterly interactive sessions between himself and the Body of Permanent Secretaries to be scheduled.
Tinubu stressed the importance of consistently measuring progress in achieving the Renewed Hope Agenda of his administration and expressed his expectation to see tangible advancements in the civil service before the next meeting.
He urged public servants to adopt a generational perspective in their work, recognizing the profound impact their actions have on over 200 million people in Nigeria and beyond. Tinubu emphasized the need to fulfill promises of lifting people out of poverty and advised against exacerbating challenges with unnecessary delays.
