Don’t politicise DSS – Olowu warns mischief makers

The Olowu of Kuta in Osun, Oba Hameed Adekunle Oyelude Makama, has cautioned against politicizing the operations of the Department of State Services (DSS). He urged individuals engaging in mischief to refrain from spreading baseless accusations and narratives that could adversely impact the morale of both officers and the rank and file within the secret police.

In a statement issued on Sunday in response to reports alleging that the Director General of the DSS, Yusuf Bichi, had misappropriated certain funds, the traditional ruler dismissed the news as groundless and absurd. Oba Makama emphasized that the DSS’s salary and allowances are distinct and cannot be entirely equated with those of civil servants due to the essential nature of their services.

Addressing the purported intention of those disseminating the false information, the monarch stated, “It is evident that the aim of the purveyors of the fake news is to create discord between the officers and the DG.” He emphasized that the appointment of the DSS DG is within the prerogative of the President, and it is essential for national security that the focus remains on the well-being of the country.

Highlighting the paramount importance of prioritizing the nation’s security in the current circumstances, Oba Makama called for a display of patriotism among Nigerians to collectively address the various challenges facing the country. He further urged those responsible for spreading misinformation to cease such activities promptly.
