ECOWAS condemns disruption of constitutional order in Guinea Bissau

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) issued a statement on Saturday strongly denouncing the violence that broke out in Guinea Bissau on Friday morning. The ECOWAS Parliament, based in Abuja, expressed deep concern about the reported violence and firmly condemned any efforts to undermine the constitutional order and rule of law in Guinea Bissau. The West African body called for the apprehension and prosecution of those responsible for the violence in accordance with the law. Additionally, the ECOWAS expressed unwavering solidarity with the people of Guinea Bissau and their country’s constitutional authority.
