Edo Guber: Otti congratulates Akpata, says LP primary credible, fair

Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, extended his congratulations to Olumide Akpata on his selection as the Labour Party (LP) candidate for the Edo State Governorship Election scheduled for September 21, 2024.

Akpata, a former National President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), emerged victorious in the LP governorship primary election held on Friday, February 23, securing 316 votes to surpass other contenders. The declaration of his victory was made by Abia State Deputy Governor Ikechukwu Emetu, who chaired the election committee.

Otti also commended the LP Governorship Primary Election Committee for conducting a transparent and credible election. He specifically praised his Deputy, Ikechuckwu Emetu, for carrying out his duties diligently as the Returning Officer.

In a statement from his office in Umuahia, the governor expressed satisfaction that the primary election was conducted peacefully and has been widely recognized as free, fair, and credible by most of the participating aspirants. This stands in contrast to reports from other political parties’ camps.

Emphasizing that the entire process aligns with the LP’s principles of equity, fairness, and justice, Governor Otti also congratulated the other aspirants for demonstrating sportsmanship and urged them to support Akpata in the endeavor to secure victory for the Labour Party in Edo State.

He called upon all aspirants who took part in the primary election to unite behind Akpata as the LP embarks on the journey to capture the Government House in Benin City. Otti additionally praised the LP leadership at both state and national levels for their efforts in ensuring a peaceful electoral process.
