EFCC raises special taskforce against dollarisation of economy

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has established a Special Task Force within all its Zonal Commands to uphold existing laws against currency mutilation and the dollarization of the economy. Dele Oyewale, the EFCC spokesperson, made this announcement in a statement released on Wednesday in Abuja.

Oyewale stated that the Task Force, which was inaugurated by the Commission’s Chairman, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, aims to safeguard the economy from misuse, leaks, and distortions that could lead to instability and disruptions.

He further mentioned that the Commission has already apprehended some individuals involved in the issuance of invoices in dollars and the defacement of the Naira in Lagos and Port Harcourt. Additionally, owners of private universities and other higher education institutions that charge fees in dollars have been summoned by the Commission.

Oyewale emphasized the Commission’s dedication to enforcing all existing laws aimed at revitalizing and stimulating the economy.
