The Emir of Dutse, Hameem Nuhu Sanusi, has initiated a special polio vaccine campaign aimed at vaccinating over 1.5 million children in Jigawa State.
The event took place at his palace, where he personally administered the vaccine to some children, reassuring the community of its safety and effectiveness.
The emir pledged that traditional institutions would continue advocating and supporting programs to improve the health, social, and economic welfare of the people.
Sanusi urged parents to ensure their children receive the vaccination to maintain the progress made in polio eradication over the past 13 years.
Dr. Sambo Shehu, the State Director of the Primary Healthcare Agency, stated that comprehensive arrangements had been made to ensure the success of the vaccination campaign.
He noted that the target was to vaccinate over 1.5 million children aged 0-5 years, with more than 3,000 teams comprising over 15,000 ad-hoc staff mobilized for the exercise to reach every child in the state.
Sambo emphasized, “The purpose of the vaccination is to bolster the immunity of our children against any potential resurgence of the poliovirus, which we eliminated from our state 13 years ago. It is a collective responsibility to safeguard our children and society from this and other deadly viruses, hence we call on everyone to fulfill their role in achieving our objectives.”
