Enugu govt to fund 2024 budget through IGR – Mbah

Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has announced that the budget for the current year, totaling N521.6 billion, will rely on internally generated revenue (IGR) for financing. He conveyed this information during a Mass held at the Government House Chapel in Enugu, marking the commencement of work in the New Year and seeking divine blessings for the state.

Governor Mbah affirmed his commitment to strictly implementing the budget to address persistent poverty and challenges resulting from the removal of subsidies. Emphasizing the need to enhance workers’ welfare and purchasing power, he urged them to be prepared to give their best.

Mbah disclosed that only about 12 percent of the N521.6 billion budget would be sourced through borrowing. He appealed to the public for increased support through tax payments and the safeguarding of public assets, asserting that the ambitious budget would be fully executed for the benefit of the people.

He stressed the importance of continued support from the citizens, urging them to actively contribute to the protection of government assets, which he emphasized are collective resources.
