Former Liverpool player John Barnes was puzzled by the message written on the undergarment T-shirt of Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi after he scored a goal in his team’s victory over West Ham United in Saturday’s Premier League match.
Awoniyi played a significant role in Nottingham Forest’s triumph, scoring the opening goal in their 2-0 win against the Hammers at the City Ground.
After scoring, the Nigerian player lifted his jersey to reveal a Bible verse written on his undergarment, specifically ‘Ecclesiastes 12:13’.
However, Awoniyi was cautioned by referee Thomas Bramall for removing his jersey during the goal celebration.
During his punditry duties for Premier League Productions, Barnes remarked that it would take him a considerable amount of time to decipher the message on Awoniyi’s T-shirt.
Barnes commented, “It is an impressive first touch. His initial touch on the half-turn enables him to create space with his body. It’s unusual to see him do that. I’m attempting to read what is written on his T-shirt, but it would require around half an hour to do so.”
