Ex-YPP State Assembly candidate, Egwu defects to LP in Abia

Arua Goodluck Egwu, who contested as the Young Progressives Party (YPP) candidate for the House of Assembly in Ohafia South constituency, Abia State, in the 2023 elections, has switched allegiance to the ruling Labour Party (LP) in the state.

This move comes shortly after Jerry Uzosike, a former member of the Abia State House of Assembly, left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the LP following a meeting with Governor Alex Otti on Monday.

In his resignation letter addressed to the YPP Chairman of Ebem Ward in Ohafia local government area of Abia State, and issued to the press on Tuesday, Mr. Egwu stated that he made the decision after extensive consultations with key political stakeholders and hundreds of his supporters across five local electoral wards in Ohafia South State Constituency.

In part of his statement, he expressed, “I formally resign my membership of the Young Progressives Party with immediate effect, citing personal reasons after consulting with friends and family members. I appreciate the party for the opportunities it provided me to serve the state to the best of my ability. I am grateful for the chance to have worked with the YPP, and I hold great respect for the party leadership and fellow members.”
