Fear grips commuters as ‘one-chance’ robbers spread terror in FCT

Residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and its environs are living in fear due to the activities of “one-chance robbers”. These criminals pose as commercial vehicle drivers or passengers to rob and sometimes kill their victims.

Despite the efforts of the security operatives, one-chance robberies are still common in the FCT. Victims have reported being robbed of their valuables, including money, phones, and jewelry. Some victims have even been killed.The police have impounded several vehicles suspected to have been used for one-chance robberies and arrested several suspects. However, the problem persists.One victim, Miss Anthonia Anebi, narrated how she was robbed by one-chance robbers. She was returning from work when she boarded a taxi from Beger to Kubwa. Inside the taxi, she noticed that the other passengers were suspicious. When she asked them to drop her, they refused and threatened her with a gun.The robbers took Anebi’s bag, phone, and ATM card. They forced her to give them her PIN number and then transferred the money in her account. They then pushed her out of the moving vehicle.The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, said the command is using various strategies to fight one-chance robberies. However, the strategy is a secret.The Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, has also vowed to shut down all illegal motor parks operating across the territory in a bid to curtail one-chance robberies.
